SolarAccess installs 3.200 solar panels on the roofs of Kortrijk Xpo within a two-week period

Wednesday 14 December 2011

Kortrijk Xpo, the international centre for trade fairs and events in the homonymous town, is to generate its own green energy by equipping its roofs with photovoltaic solar panels. It has 3.200 solar panels installed on the roofs of two expo halls, ensuring an annual reduction in CO2-emission of 1.200 tonnes.

Due to Kortrijk Xpo’s congested agenda, construction could not start before mid September. Nevertheless the entire project, including a thorough preparation, was finished well within two weeks’ time. Contractor of this large project was SolarAccess, a company specialised in the development, construction and exploitation of solar current systems for industrial roof surfaces. The company’s vast experience in installing solar power systems on large flat roof surfaces made it the partner of choice for this project. The system, installed on a 12.500 m² surface and a capacity of 800 kWp, will generate an annual total of 750 MWh. This amounts to the annual power consumption of about 200 families.

Lander Mestdagh, Services Director of Kortrijk Xpo: “This purchase fits within a large number of initiatives Kortrijk Xpo has undertaken in the area of sustainable enterprise. For the same reason we have already chosen for the purchase of green current, motion sensors for the lighting in our offices, reuse of rainwater and numerous other, more small-scale initiatives.”
